Instructor Trainer
Maxine McLaughlin
Growing up on the water in Shelharbour, NSW, she thought she knew all there was about the water and water sports. After a spinal injury left her doing aqua aerobics in the pool with ladies who had 50+years on her, she stumbled across the world of freediving which completely changed her life. She moved overseas and eventually found herself in the Caribbean with great mentor's, learning how to share and teach this amazing sport.
Maxine has experienced the world of freediving from many angles, from training herself, training with athletes, working on underwater shoots and multiple other events where underwater safety is needed. She continuously keeps up to date with new understandings and research involving freediving and hopes to contribute to the overall safety and knowledge of the freediving community.
With a breath hold of over 5 minutes and the ability to dive to over 50m deep on a single breath, she is happiest while in the water sharing her knowledge and passion with student's across the world.
Notes From Max:
It's easy to search online and come across training plans, courses, and workshops that emphasize numbers, depths, and times, often disregarding the unique needs of individuals. This tendency makes us overlook the fact that each person's experience is truly one-of-a-kind. Your fears, thoughts, experiences, and physiology all play a role in shaping your personal journey.
I have dedicated years to my own professional diving development, and I intend to continue this pursuit indefinitely. This sport is incredibly fascinating, and through my own experiences, I've come to realize the immense value of personalized learning. We cannot all be fit into the same mold since one size doesn't fit all, and everyone learns and adapts in their own distinct ways.
My aspiration is to become the kind of coach I wished I had when I started out. A coach who can expedite learning and readily adapt to emerging needs. I strive to be versatile, efficiently sharing knowledge and experiences with others.
Every day, I am filled with excitement at the prospect of introducing people from around the world to the wonders of freediving. I aim to unlock their potential, showing them how to harness the tools they already possess while also equipping them with additional skills for their journey.
I look forward to the opportunity of seeing you in the water soon!
